On 17th December 2008, JP Duminy made his debut for the South African cricket team in the test format against Australia in Perth. In his debut match for the team, he went on to score a half century and formed a 100 run partnership with AB de Villiers. His 50 run knock was appreciated by everyone as he played some beautiful shots which was great for a debutant at the highest stage. After having a successful debut, he was given a chance in the second test as well.
In the second test against Australia, the South African cricket team were 200 runs behind when JP Duminy came out to bat. He decided to take matters into his own hands and started to build a partnership with the tailenders to help South Africa get a favourable position and went on to score 166 runs which at the end helped South Africa get a lead of 62 runs and finally win the match comfortably by 9 wickets.
