Jacobs declared in May 2016 that he was “seriously considering” running as a Republican for the office of Knox County mayor in Tennessee in 2018, but that he would make a definitive choice following the 2016 presidential election.
Jacobs formally declared his intention to compete as a Republican for the position of Knox County mayor in March 2017. By a margin of 17 votes, Jacobs prevailed in the Republican primary contest for Knox County, Tennessee’s mayoral position on May 1, 2018.
Brad Anders received 14,616 votes (36.05%), 14,633 votes (36.09%) for Jacobs, and 11,296 votes (27.86%) for Bob Thomas. Jacobs defeated her Democratic challenger Linda Haney in the election for mayor on August 2 with 51,804 votes (66.39%) to 26,224 (33.61%).
Jacobs criticised the impeachment investigation into President Donald Trump in a 2019 appearance with Fox News to promote a recently published book. He claimed that by pursing it, the Democratic Party was further dividing society.
Jacobs was the lone member of the Knox County Board of Health to rule against requiring masks inside certain structures in July 2020.
“I worry that one-size-fits-all mandates such as this set a terrible precedent for government overreach, are challenging to enforce, can lead to conflict between the government and the public when enforced, and, as written, this order places enforcement responsibilities on private businesses,” he said in support of his vote.
In September 2020, he would have a disagreement with the Board over a video he had made in which he referred to other board members as “unelected bureaucrats who cast down edicts which carry the force of law with no accountability and no recourse.”
He would push for the Board’s dissolution and later prevail on the Knox County Commission to push up a decision on restricting their authority from April to March 2021.
Jacobs declared in March 2021 that he would run for re-election as Knox County Mayor for a second term. On August 5, 2022, he would beat Democratic challenger Debbie Helsley.

Before joining the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) in 1995, he started his professional wrestling career in 1992 on the independent circuit, competing in organisations like Smoky Mountain Wrestling (SMW) and the United States Wrestling Association (USWA).
Jacobs played a variety of roles up until 1997, when he was recast as Kane, a juggernaut younger half-brother of The Undertaker and son of Paul Bearer with a horror-themed personification of fire.
