Why did Viv Richards choose Antigua?
When the greatest batsman was asked about why he chose his hometown over big lavish cities, the greatest batsman went on to give a beautiful answer:-
Our cricket fields are all you need to see to realise what a lively island we are. Our most famous fan, a cross-dressing local character named Gravy, who would get the entire audience going by writhing and dangling from the rafters, made the old Recreation Ground’s noise and atmosphere legendary.
Every day, I get together with a group of guys to “hold parliament” behind the Rec. While eating lunch from the street food shacks, we talk about all the issues on the island and try to set everything right.
I adore those shacks selling fast meals. They serve bull foot soup, which is quite strong, pepperpot (a one-pot slow-cooked meal), stewed fish, steaming fish, and “goat water,” which is similar to soup and can be hot. I adore all of the Caribbean food. I go to Le Bistro, a traditional French restaurant, on the eastern side of the island for something fancier….
I find it somewhat unusual for such a small island that Antigua boasts 365 beaches, one for every day of the year. My favourite is Fort James since it has actual history, was built by the British in the 18th century, still has its original cannons, and provides a fantastic perspective of the harbour. And one of the most stunning beaches you can imagine on any island is Pigeon Point, which is located in the south of the island.
Ian Botham, an old acquaintance of mine and my best mate, will be here. And no, we don’t address one another as “sir”; to me, he’s still Beefy. He enjoys going large-game fishing. We leave from Halcyon Cove to fish for marlin and whatever else Ian can get to bite. My guy has a boat.
The tourism ambassador had the greatest feeling while giving the best reply for his reason for living such a lowkey life in his boyhood town.
